Stop The Violence Basketball Charity Showcase

GB Silver Medallist, Melita Carr, is tackling gang related violence through sports with “Stop The Violence” Basketball Charity Showcase.

During her time at University Illionis College, Melita experienced first hand the spiralling effect of violence in the inner-city communities of Chicago. The “Stop The Violence” Basketball Charity Game was created to help put an end to violence following the gang-related murder of a friend, Elton Thomas, who was walking home after playing basketball.

Now, Melita is bringing the event home to London with the aim of bringing people together to create awareness about the current violence epidemic in London

The Westminster Sports ambassador said;

“I strongly believe that this sport can give people especially the younger generation an outlet from the gang violence which has doubled within the past 5 years. Speaking from experience basketball is not just a game! It produces life skills and discipline. It also can create a family aspect which is what most children look for when joining a gang.” #FOOTFIREAPPROVED
